It is named after the city of Darmstad (GSI Helmholtz Heavy Ion Research Center in the Wihausen district) where it was discovered. It is also known by the names eka-platinum and ununnillium (Uun), which was temporarily given by the International Union of Applied Fundamentals and Chemistry.
